Stone Carving

A couple of years after I retired, while I was doing a major renovation on the house, there was an opportunity to take a stone carving course at the nearby Saskatoon Farm.  The course was part of an African Stone Sculpture show/sale so we had access to lots of relatively soft raw stone, stuff like serpentine.

The course was taught using traditional techniques, no power tools just chisels, files, sandpaper.  The course took me away from the renovations for almost 2 weeks, this was slow tedious but rewarding work.

I designed something like a 3D Mobius strip, a ribbon with a twist in it.  It  messed with my mind as I tried to carve it.

well here it is .......

I haven't done any stone carving since, although I do have a large piece set aside for a small bird bath ..... when I  get around to it.
